Installing Slack

This is a short guide that describes how to install Slack on a desktop computer.

Overview

Slack is, and is a vital tool for how the Simpler Grants.gov team communicates. If you're new to this tool, please take some time to follow the onboarding steps below.

Step 1 - Sign up for Slack

  • Please to join.

    • Your invitation will say the following:

    • “Let’s work together on Slack. Use this link to start a direct message with me: [Link to be included]”

    • Click the link within the invitation and it should direct you to a “Let’s get you set up” page similar to the below:

Step 2 - Get Started with Slack

  • Please follow the instructions on your “Get Started” page. If you receive a prompt similar to the below, select “Continue”

  • Please enter your email address and select “Continue”

  • Authentication Time! Upon arriving at the next page, a 6 character code should have been sent to your email address. Please go view your HHS inbox to view the 6 character code and enter it in the screen below. If your inbox is categorized into various sections, please remember to select “view all” within your inbox to find the code. If you still don’t see the email, check your spam filter.

  • Let’s start a conversation!

    • Select “Start a Conversation” and move forward to the next screen

  • Welcome to the Simpler Grants Slack Channel! At this point, you’ve automatically joined our #general Channel. Once you’ve completed your onboarding process, I will send you a message and proceed to add you to our internal and public channels.

Step 3 - Let’s get to know you better!

  • Create your profile.

  • Select “Edit”

Download Slack on your desktop

Step 2: Go to your local “Downloads” folder and select “SlackSetup.exe”. Continue with your typical local process to install software on your computer.

Step 3: Launch Slack! Select “Sign in to Slack” using your previously created credentials.

Step 4: Choose a Workspace. Click on “Simpler Grants.gov” and select “Open Slack”

Step 5: At this step, you might receive a “We don’t recognize this device” prompt. Please follow the instructions to retrieve the six digit code.

Step 6: The Slack application should now be available on your desktop.

At the top right of your slack screen, select the white background icon with a human figure within it. Then select “Profile.”

Fill in the displayed fields and upload a professional image.
